This site supports schools, teachers, students and parents in assisting gifted and talented students to reach their full potential academically, emotionally, and socially. It provides principles and practices to support identification, planning and education of gifted and talented students. It also provides ongoing professional learning and support for gifted and talented communities (gifted.tki.org.nz).

Through the gifted.tki website is a facility set up for teachers to contribute classroom resources, teaching notes, worksheets and assessments. Although there is not a lot there at the moment such a resource bank could prove to be very useful for teachers throughout NZ and from all over the world.


Gifted and Talent Nurturing at Home
For the gifted and talented children, learning does not need to stop at school. It can be extended in after school and weekend classes in music and arts. Parents can also nurture the children's giftedness through various challenging activities at home.
  
Ministry of Education Handbook
MOE handbook for schools collects together a range of resources for teachers and school managers about gifted and talented education. This key collection is structured around the New Zealand Ministry of Education's gifted and talented 'handbook' for schools, entitled Gifted & talented: Meeting their needs in New Zealand schools. This book was originally published for the Ministry in print format by Learning Media in 2000. (Learning Media item number 23872.)


What can you do to help?

Gifted children have special needs and can often become frustrated or bored easily without proper stimulation and challenges. While Muritai provide programs specifically geared to support gifted students, this is often not enough. The good news is, there is plenty that you can do as a parent to support your gifted child to help them grow and thrive.
